Super Falcons Hit by Major Blow as Osinachi Ohale Retires After 16 Years

The Super Falcons have been dealt a major blow with Nigeria defender Osinachi Ohale announcing her retirement from international football after a remarkable 16-year career with the national team.

The 33-year-old bows out having represented Nigeria at

1. Four FIFA Women’s World Cups and
2. Seven editions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations,
3. winning the continental title five times.

Ohale leaves the international stage with 86 appearances for the Super Falcons, bringing an end to a career that spanned several generations of Nigerian women’s football.

Her decision comes after years of wearing the famous green and white and contributing to Nigeria’s continued dominance of the African game.

A Career Built on Trophies and Sacrifice

Ohale became an important figure in the Super Falcons defence during her long international career, featuring in some of the biggest moments in Nigerian women’s football.

Reflecting on her decision, she admitted that walking away from international football was not easy.

"After 16 years of wearing the Nigeria jersey, representing my country and giving everything I had for this beautiful sport, I have made the very difficult decision to retire from international football," she wrote.

The defender said she gave everything to the national team and would make the same choice again if given the opportunity.

"I gave this jersey my youth, my strength, my sweat, my tears and my heart."

"And if I had to do it all over again, I would choose Nigeria again, every time," she said.

For Ohale, few moments could match the pride of hearing the Nigerian national anthem before representing her country.

That bond with the supporters, she suggested, made the responsibility of wearing the Nigeria shirt even more meaningful.
