Undefeated. Unbeaten. Untouchable.
Nigeria’s Flamingos have once again stamped their authority on the West African women’s game, completing a flawless campaign to win the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after thrashing Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Five matches produced
- five victories,
- 17 goals scored and
- just two conceded
as Nigeria marched through the tournament without dropping a single point.
Five matches. Five victories. Seventeen goals scored. Two conceded.
That was the story of Nigeria’s campaign as Hakeem Busari’s side swept aside every opponent on their way to the trophy without suffering a single defeat.
And in the final, the Flamingos ensured there would be no late drama.
And when the trophy was finally within reach, the Flamingos delivered their biggest performance of the competition.
Harmony Chidi Leads the Dominance
Captain Chidera Harmony was the star of the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot to put Nigeria firmly in control before half-time.
Harmony converted her first penalty in the 15th minute before calmly dispatching another spot-kick 20 minutes later.
Her second goal gave Nigeria a 2-0 lead heading into the interval and left Togo facing an uphill battle against a Flamingos side that had already shown throughout the tournament that they could punish mistakes.
Nigeria did not take their foot off the gas after the restart.
Oluebube Umejiaku extended the advantage in the 67th minute, making it 3-0 and effectively ending any hopes of a Togo comeback.
The Flamingos continued pressing for more and were rewarded once again in the 90th minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the scoring.
The 4-0 victory granted celebrations as Nigeria lifted the sub-regional title with pure dominance.
Five Games, Five Victories
Nigeria’s route to the trophy was just as impressive as the final scoreline.
The Flamingos opened their campaign with a
- 5-0 demolition of Niger Republic,
- before facing eternal rivals Ghana in a six-goal thriller.
Nigeria emerged 4-2 winners against Ghana before producing another convincing performance against Burkina Faso.
The girls defeated their opponent 2-0, with Mary Dunstan and Adegbuyi scoring late goals.
The Flamingos then overcame hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0, with Adegbuyi and Pattra Oparanmegwa finding the net.
Togo were the final hurdle and they were swept aside 4-0.
The victory completed Nigeria’s five-match winning run and ensured Busari’s side finished the tournament with a perfect record.
Nigeria Were Already Running Away With It
The standings before the final showed just how dominant Nigeria had been.
After four matches, the Flamingos were already sitting top of the table with 12 points from four wins, having scored 13 goals and conceded just two for a goal difference of +11.
Ghana were second with nine points from three wins and one defeat, while Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso had six points each.
Togo had three points, while Niger Republic finished without a point after losing all four of their matches.

NFF Hails 'Distinction' From Flamingos
The remarkable campaign has earned praise from the Nigeria Football Federation, with its Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, commending the players and officials after their triumph.
Ikpeme praised the Flamingos for making the nation proud and backed the team to carry their momentum into the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
“The Flamingos have done very well, made the nation proud and I have this faith in the players that they are not done yet."

The WAFU-B triumph provides the perfect boost ahead of the next major challenge for Coach Busari and his players.
The Flamingos are now turning their attention to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, where they will look to carry the confidence generated by their flawless West African campaign onto the global stage.
Nigeria are also the victorious bronze-medallists from the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, adding another layer of expectation to the team's preparations.
The victorious Flamingos are scheduled to return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
