As the Super Eagles head into the final stretch of their qualifiers, the pressure is mounting on both the players and coaching staff to turn things around.
The Super Eagles might boast some of Africa’s biggest football stars, but their recent performances suggest that star power alone isn’t enough.
As of now, Nigeria sits fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, having secured only one win and four draws, and suffering one defeat.
Nigeria currently sit fourth in Group C with seven points after six matches, while South Africa’s Bafana Bafana lead the table with 13 points.
Nigeria currently trail Group C leaders South Africa by six points, having failed to win five of
their six matches so far.
The 43-year-old remains optimistic about Nigeria’s World Cup chances, saying that if they win all their remaining matches and get favorable results from other teams, qualification is still possible.
Joining Nigeria in the tournament will be the Black Stars of Ghana, the Reggae Boys of Jamaica, and the Soca Warriors of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Super Eagles currently sit fourth in the group with seven points from six games; six points behind leaders South Africa.
Ikedia concluded by stating that “We (Nigeria) have a generation of young players. Many of
them are still developing, so the best thing we can do is encourage and support them.”
Ekpo also pointed out the importance of playing players in their right positions to avoid further
issues within the team.
