Super Eagles head coach Finidi George has revealed that former coach José Peseiro initially felt threatened when he joined the team as his assistant.

Finidi served as the assistant coach under Peseiro for 20 months before being appointed head coach.

“Our relationship was fantastic. When I joined the Super Eagles almost two years ago, he didn’t know why I was there. He thought I was coming for his job,” Finidi said.

“But when he saw that I was there to work with him and help him, we became closer. When he left, he sent me a message, hoping I would be the next man.”

Finidi also spoke about Peseiro reaching out to congratulate him after the announcement.

“When the announcement was made, he called me and congratulated me. Our relationship remains very cordial and good to this day,” he added.
