China, Nigeria Draw 0-0 at U20 WWC

China PR and Nigeria’s Falconets played out a tense 0-0 draw in their Group F clash at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland on Thursday.

The hard-fought result at Arena Sosnowiec left both sides still in contention for the knockout stages after two matches.

Nigeria, seeking a response after a 2-0 opening loss to Spain, started brightly. Janet Akekoromowei created the first clear chance in the 17th minute.

The Falconets grew in confidence, with Kafayat Mafisere winning a corner in the 33rd minute and Akekoromowei threatening again late in the first half.

Goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma and the Nigerian defence stayed solid against early Chinese probes from Huang Jiaxin, Zhou Xinyi and Song Lijuan.

China, buoyed by a 5-0 thrashing of New Caledonia in their opener, introduced Chen Ruilin at half-time for more attacking threat.

The second half saw both teams push harder. Nigeria’s Queen Joseph, Mafisere and Precious Oscar went close, while China responded through Chen, Xue Sifan and Huang.

A late drama arrived in the 74th minute when Nigeria were awarded a penalty, only for VAR to overturn the decision after review. Neither side could break the deadlock before the final whistle.

The draw leaves Spain top of Group F with six points after an 11-0 win over New Caledonia.

China sit second on four points with a clean defensive record. Nigeria have one point and sit third, while New Caledonia remain bottom without a point.
