Arsenal's Defeat Expose a Huge Problem Xabi Alonso Must Fix at Chelsea

Chelsea arrived at the Emirates Stadium with plenty to prove. After spending almost £350m during the summer transfer window, the Blues entered their first major Premier League test under Xabi Alonso hoping to show that the heavy investment had finally transformed them into genuine title contenders.

Instead, a familiar problem resurfaced.

Chelsea had the attacking quality to hurt Arsenal, but their lack of midfield depth and defensive organisation ultimately proved decisive as the reigning champions recovered from an early setback to win 2-1.

For Chelsea, the defeat was more than another loss to Arsenal. It exposed a structural weakness that could become increasingly difficult to ignore.

Rogers Strikes, but Arsenal Fight Back

Chelsea stunned the Emirates after just two minutes.

£117m summer signing, Morgan Rogers reacted quickest after Arsenal failed to clear a Reece James free-kick, sending a volley beyond David Raya to give the visitors a dream start.

It was also the first goal Arsenal had conceded this season.

But Chelsea's early advantage did not change a worrying trend. Alonso's side had failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous 18 Premier League matches and were soon forced into a prolonged defensive battle.

Emiliano Martinez denied Bukayo Saka, while Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana produced crucial blocks as Arsenal continued to apply pressure.

The equaliser eventually arrived in the 25th minute.

Former Chelsea forward, Kai Havertz beat Martinez at his near post with a well-placed finish, giving Arsenal the momentum they needed.

Chelsea still threatened.

James forced Raya into a save from distance before Pedro Neto came within inches of restoring the visitors' lead, striking the post after a superb solo run but Arsenal had the final say.
