Manchester United’s troubled Premier League season continued with another frustrating result as they were held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Leeds United at a raucous Elland Road on Sunday.

Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the visitors in the 35th minute, converting a precise low cross from Youri Tielemans with a composed left-footed finish. The Cameroon international’s fourth Premier League goal of the campaign briefly lifted spirits for Michael Carrick’s side.

Yet Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s instinctive second-half strike from a corner just six minutes after the restart cancelled it out, leaving United still searching for a second league win.

The result leaves Manchester United with a dismal record of one win, four draws and two defeats from seven Premier League matches. Sitting 13th on seven points with a goal difference of zero (10 scored, 10 conceded), this marks their worst start to a top-flight season since 1986/87.

They remain winless in their last five league outings since a 5-2 thrashing of Ipswich Town at the end of August and have now gone six games without victory across all competitions.

Mbeumo continues to stand out as United’s most reliable attacking outlet. Deployed as a makeshift target man in a side often without a recognised striker, the former Brentford forward has delivered consistent threat and clinical finishing.

His goal against Leeds followed earlier strikes against Ipswich, Everton and Tottenham, making him the club’s outright top scorer in the Premier League this term. He has been involved in key moments throughout a campaign short on bright spots, offering movement, finishing and work rate that few teammates have matched.

Despite an improved first-half display and the lead, United faded after the break. Leeds dominated possession and territory, capitalising on defensive lapses from a poorly defended corner that allowed Calvert-Lewin to equalise.

Carrick’s men created limited clear chances thereafter, with substitutions including Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha failing to force a late winner.

The draw does little to ease mounting pressure on Carrick. United’s inability to convert promising moments into victories has become a recurring theme, leaving them well off the pace in the early Premier League table while Leeds sit seventh on 10 points.

Mbeumo’s form provides a rare positive, but one player’s contributions cannot mask deeper issues.

Without a rapid improvement in results and consistency, Manchester United’s challenging 2026-27 Premier League campaign risks becoming a prolonged struggle for stability and points.
