Oparanozie Could return for Australia clash

Forward, Desire Oparanozie is working her way back to full fitness and could return for Nigeria’s group B match the clash against Australia on Thursday.

Oparanozie missed last Friday’s Women’s World Cup opening match against Canada at the Rectangular Stadium on Thursday after picking up an injury on the eve of the game.

The 29 year-old forward is however back in training, working with the ball, although separately from the rest of the team.

With the game slated for Thursday, Oparanozie has time on her side to recover fully and be part of the squad.

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons will be without Deborah Abiodun due to suspension, but the duo of Halimotu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade are available for selection again after serving their suspensions.

Also Australia’s captain, Sam Kerr, is still doubtful for the clash as she continues to nurse an injury.

The Matildas sit on top of the Group with three points, followed by Canada and Nigeria with a point each. Debutants, Republic of Ireland is fourth without a poin
