Lewis Hamilton has been disqualified from the US Grand Prix after his car failed a post-race inspection, causing a major controversy.
Hamilton, who initially finished second behind Max Verstappen, was removed from the results, alongside Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.
Both cars underwent random checks after the race and were found to have violated the rules regarding the thickness of the car’s skid block.
The FIA stewards confirmed the disqualification, stating that the skid block wear exceeded permissible limits, emphasizing the responsibility of competitors to ensure their cars’ compliance with regulations at all times during an event.
The 38 year-old expressed his disappointment earlier, believing he could have won the US Grand Prix if not for strategic issues.
He finished just under two seconds behind Verstappen and was confident that on another day, he could have secured victory.
Lando Norris from McLaren has been elevated to second place as a result of Hamilton’s disqualification, while Carlos Sainz from Ferrari is now in third.
