Nigeria Falconets Hold China to 0-0 Draw at U-20 Women’s World Cup


Nigeria’s Falconets played out a goalless draw with China PR in their second Group F match at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stages alive.


The Nigeria U20 women’s team produced a disciplined defensive performance at Arena Sosnowiec on Thursday but could not find the breakthrough as both teams settled for a 0-0 draw.


The result leaves Nigeria with one point from two matches, while China move to four points after remaining unbeaten in the group.


Nigeria Falconets and China Play Out Goalless Draw

Nigeria entered the China vs Nigeria U20 clash looking for a response after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening Group F match.


The Falconets started positively, with Janet Akekoromowei creating Nigeria’s first clear opportunity in the 17th minute.



Nigeria continued to grow into the game as Kafayat Mafisere won a corner in the 33rd minute, while Akekoromowei remained a threat as the first half drew to a close.


At the other end, goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma and the Nigerian defence dealt effectively with China's early attacking efforts, including attempts involving Huang Jiaxin, Zhou Xinyi and Song Lijuan.


China Push for Breakthrough After Half-Time

China came into the match with confidence following their emphatic 5-0 victory over New Caledonia in their opening game.


They introduced Chen Ruilin at half-time as they looked to increase their attacking threat.


The second half became more open, with both sides creating opportunities.


Nigeria went close through Queen Joseph, Mafisere and Precious Oscar, while China responded with chances involving Chen, Xue Sifan and Huang.

Neither team, however, could find the decisive goal.


VAR Overturns Nigeria Penalty

The biggest moment of the match came in the 74th minute when Nigeria were awarded a penalty.


Following a VAR review, the decision was overturned, denying the Falconets a major opportunity to take the lead.


The score remained 0-0 until the final whistle, with both defences holding firm.


Nigeria Falconets' U-20 World Cup Qualification Situation

The draw leaves Spain top of Group F with six points after their 11-0 victory over New Caledonia.


China are second with four points, while Nigeria have one point. New Caledonia remains bottom without a point.


Nigeria's position means their final group match will be crucial.
