Onuachu explains why he snubbed Club Brugge

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu confirmed he received offer from Belgian Jupiler Champions, Club Brugge.

Onuachu was desperate to leave Genk during the transfer window, but in the end the Nigerian ended up staying in the Cegeka Arena, despite the interests from Club Brugge.

“Yes, Club was interested. But why should I leave Genk for Brugge?,” the striker was quoted in De Morgen.

“That’s a step sideways as far as I’m concerned and you don’t do that. The board didn’t want that either and was clear about that. It makes sense to me that the Golden Shoe does not go to a domestic competitor.”

Onuachu signed for Genk in 2019 and has become a legend at the Club, helping to the Belgian Cup.

He also won golden shoe, player of the year award and broke several records in the Jupiler league.
