Umar speaks as tension continues to grow over the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Elections held on Monday in Kano and Tuesday in Abuja.
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Tijani Umar has stated that the Federation is facing a herculean task over the past few days as two Presidents have been elected from two different elections.
There was once trouble in the NBBF after some Board members pulled out of an election, because of the exclusion of one of their members whom they believed was supposed to contest the election.
And now, there’s confusion over who is the new president of the NBBF after two elections were held by different parties on different days.
Umar, who has been in charge of the Basketball Federation for the past four years, stated that FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, will determine new leader of the board.
Umar said: “The only thing I will say right now is, Ultimately FIBA will decide the board that takes charge of the running of basketball in Nigeria,”.
However, he dismissed the Musa-Kida led NBBF board, adding that the Nigeria Olympic Committee was fully aware and represented in Kano by their President Engr. Habu Gumel and the Secretary General Tunde Popoola as observers.
The two controversial elections saw Ahmadu-Kida as NBBF President Elect in Tuesday Election, whereas, Monday Election saw Alhaji Tijani Umar return as President.
