Striker Taiwo Awoniyi was in action for his club Mainz 05 in their Wednesday German Bundesliga clash with FC Union Berlin.
The on-loan Liverpool forward was rewarded with a place in the starting line up after he appearing as a substitute in the last two league game against Cologne and RB Leipzig respectively.
Awoniyi who was deployed on the right side of the attack fired blank in the game and lasted for 62nd minutes before being replaced by another Nigerian Karim Onisiwo.
Bote Nzuzi Baku put Mainz ahead in the 12th minutes before Marcus Ingvartsen leveled the tie with a superb free kick in the 36th minutes.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw as both sides failed to find the winner before the final whistle.
Meanwhile, Anthony Ujah was on the bench throughout the game for Fischer Urs’s side who are 13th on the log with 31 points from 28 matches.
Mainz on their part remained one spot ahead of the relegation zone, they have been able to gather 28 points from 28 matches.
