Winning friendly games is not a Must – Garba Lawal

Former Nigeria international, Garba Lawal, said the Super Eagles must not win friendly games and Rohr should focus more on building the team.

Former Super Eagles winger, Garba Lawal, has stated that, making the qualifications for 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations should be set as a priority.

Lawal stated that a friendly game is played basically so that managers will know their areas of strength and weaknesses.

The former Lobi Stars Assistant coach, believes that Gernot Rohr is on the right track with the manner in which the team is being built.

But also warned that the qualifiers will be different from the friendly games and the team should trade with caution.

“Winning the friendly game is not a must but qualifying for the World Cup and AFCON is.

“We must look at the way we play and how we could win games. We are on the right track with the players and officials are doing very well.

“Rohr knows his players and I believe is doing great with the way he’s shaping the team to play but he has to focus more on that.

The Eagles are expected to come back after the Togo clash tomorrow to open their Group E Cameroon 2019 AFCON qualifying account against the South African foes on Saturday, June 10 in Uyo.
