Vice President of the Africa Table Tennis Federation Waheed Oshodi has hailed the Nigerian table tennis players’ feat at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Tunisia where the players secured qualification spots into the Table Tennis events of the Tokyo 2020 games.
Oshodi speaking in a chat with www.brila.net hailed the extraordinary feat of Funke Oshonaike who secured her seventh qualification as well as Eden Offiong’s heroics in Tunisia.
He praised Jide Omotayo and described him as the new face of the next generation while ruing Aruna Quadri’s injury which means he will have his Olympic qualification delayed and will have to keep his ranking intact to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 games.
“The results have gone in our favour they’ve played very well. I must congratulate Funke Oshonaike’s seventh qualification for the Olympics.
Edem Offiong this is her fourth Olympic now and she did the business well in Tunisia, Jide Omotayo the new face of Nigerian Table tennis, the youngest member of the national team now did very well to qualify for the Olympics unfortunately Aruna has a bad injury but we expect him to qualify through his ranking. So it’s sort of been a clean sweep for us, we must give credit to the team.”
