10 years ago as a 6-year-old kid, Angel Gomes took a picture with his favorite idol at Manchester United.
For Gomes there must have been a zing, a connection that would see the youngster grow through the ranks and by providence share the same dressing room with and even replace that idol on his first senior appearance for the club.
Born 31 August 2000, Gomes made Premier League history on the last day of the season, becoming the first Premier League player to be born in the 2000s.
He also got the rear chance of replacing that Idol of his, Wayne Rooney.
The 16-year-old tweeted a picture of himself with Rooney in 2007 with a message: “10 yrs later! Young boy with dreams 🙌🏽 anything is possible if you believe ! @ManUtd”
His tweet on Monday has got over 17,000 retweets and 27,000 likes.

The London-born England junior International is an attacking midfielder and the three minutes opportunity handed him by Jose Mourinho must have meant a lot.
