Ex-International Ifeanyi Udeze has described the Super Eagles Boss, Gernot Rohr’s selection style at the Russia 2018 World Cup has an ‘absolute blunder’.
Speaking on the Wednesday edition of Udeze’s diary on Brila FM, the former West Brom defender who was in Russia to cheer the team decried Gernot Rohr’s ineffective use of the few experienced players in the team.
Udeze stressed the difference between the Natural left back and the left wing-back position while citing the essence of playing a natural left back ahead of others who are being deployed to adjust into an unfamiliar role.
The former AEK Athens left-back said the Franco-German Coach failed to mix the youth and the experienced players available at his disposal in the team.
“The National team should comprise of both youth and the experienced players”
“We have players who have played at the big stage, even if at 40, the experience is still vital”
The Super Eagles team was not lacking in depth and experience with the likes of Elderson Echiejile, Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, but Coach Gernot Rohr choose to stick to the same set of players for the three group games.
Udeze was a member of the Chief Adegboye Onigbinde-led Super Eagles team at the 2002 Korea/Japan FIFA World Cup.
