Premier League side Arsenal have moved a step closer to signing Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos after agreeing on a £16m fee for the defender.
The Greece international is on the verge of becoming Unai Emery’s second Gunners signing following the arrival of Stephan Lichsteiner from Italian giants Juventus, according to The Telegraph.
The 29-year-old, who has one year remaining on his Dortmund contract, has been tipped to sign a three-year deal with Arsenal.
Emery is said to be keen to add experience to his defence, with Per Mertesacker having retired and Laurent Koscielny due to miss the start of next season.
Sokratis has spent five years at Dortmund, having joined the club from Werder Bremen in 2013.
