Former Super Falcons goalkeeper and four-time African champions, Ann Chiejine said she opted for goalkeeping to get more game time as a young footballer.
Chiejine, who was recently inducted into the Nigeria football hall of fame as a Legend, said she started her footballing career as a winger.
‘I started a right wing player. The coach always brought me on as a sub with 10 or 5 minutes before the end of the game.
‘I was determined to play more, so I decided to try out in other positions. One of my coaches approached me and suggested that my height was perfect fit for a goalkeeper, so I gave it a try, the rest is history,’ she told brila.net
As a goalkeeper she became Nigeria’s first choice between 1991 and 2004.
In 2016 she was named as assistant coach of the Super Falcons; the team conquered African for its 8th championship crown.
