Forgotten Super Eagles forward, Ekigho Ehiosun has revealed Turkey is the new Mecca for footballers in Europe, including Nigerians, because it’s a Tax haven.
Several big name Nigerian players including the likes of William Troost-Ekong, Abdullahi Shehu and co are now play in the Turkish Super Lig, but aside footballing reasons, Ehiosun insists the financial benefits outweighs all else.
In an interview with Tony Bekederemo on Brila FM’s Center Circle, the former GaziÅŸehir Gaziantep, Samsunspor and GençlerbirliÄŸi player was asked about his opinion on the mass movement to Turkey.
“I was asked same thing recently. I came to Turkey in 2011. Before I made the move, I spoke with some players who were already familiar with the Turkish environment.
“Turkey is a place to start, It can expose you to other great leagues.”
“Every player has their opinion as regard Turkey, I can’t speak for everybody, but monetarily, Turkey is one place where they do the tax free thing, they call it net payment.
“There’s no tax and it’s one huge advantage compared to other leagues where the tax regime are so high; I think that’s one big advantage for playing in Turkey – if that’s the attraction you’re talking about.
“The bottom line is that Turkey is a good place to ply your trade. I know there’s the problem of delay in payment or none payment, but I think it’s a good place to start,” the former Warri Wolves star explained.
