Eagles to play Poland, Serbia, others as NFF lines up Six friendlies before World Cup

The NFF has announced the international friendlies that the Super Eagles will play as part of the preparations for the summer Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The Super Eagles join the quartet of Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, and Morocco as Africa representatives at the 2018 World Cup to be staged across various cities in Russia beginning from June.

And the African giants have started making full-fledged preparations ahead of the biggest global football showpiece.

In the light of this, the Super Eagles have been scheduled to play a number of friendly matches that will test their readiness and fitness for the mundial.

Nigeria qualified for the World Cup thanks to an unbeaten run in a group that comprised defending African Cup of Nations champions Cameroon, as well as Zambia and Algeria.

Following the qualification and a draw that took place in December in Switzerland, Nigeria has been drawn in World Cup Group D alongside eternal global foes Argentina, 2016 European Championship Cinderella team Iceland and Croatia.

But to prepare for the tough encounters, the Super Eagles will play six friendly matches which will culminate in their final clash against the Czech Republic on 6 June.

The Super Eagles will play Poland, Serbia, Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), England and the Czech Republic as preparation for the Mundial.

Gernot Rohr-led Eagles will face Poland on the latter’s home ground on 23 March before slugging it out with Serbia four days later (March 27) in the United Kingdom.

There will be a home fixture against DR Congo in Abuja on 28 May before locking horn with World Cup-bound England on June 3 at Wembley.

Their final clash comes against the Czech Republic on June 6 in Austria before jetting out to Russia to take part in the tournament.

Nigeria will be making their sixth World Cup appearance, opens their World Cup campaign with a clash against Croatia on June 16 before playing Iceland on 22 June and then finishing the group game with Argentina four days later.
