Mubadala Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi was the first stage featuring Serena Williams on a tennis court for a match for the first time since the Australian Open final.
The 23-time Major winner lost to the Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko 6/2 3/6 10-5.
Ups and downs during the match for Serena, who had a pretty slow start in the first set, without being able to run and hitting some slow serves.
In the second set Serena felt better and better, but at the end she ended up losing in the third set tie-break. Still, it was a good test to understand how her body would react four months after giving birth her daughter Alexis Olympia.
In a short on-court interview, Williams admitted: ‘First matches back are super, incredibly hard especially after having a baby. I’m excited, it’s good to be back on the court. This was such a good time for me.
It’s my first time playing in Abu Dhabi so thank you guys for the support. It was great, I’m glad I could do it here.’
