Justice Christopher: Scrap NPFL if No Players makes World Cup Squad

Ex Player Justice Christopher has said if no player from the NPFL makes the Super Eagles’ 23-man list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup then the league should be scrapped.

Christopher, who was capped 11 times for Nigeria, said it is imperative to select players from NPFL and the topic shouldn’t even have to be a debate.

Nigeria called up 52 players for the World Cup qualifiers – from Round 2 – but only five NPFL players were handed game time through the eight qualifying matches played.

The six others who also got invitations during the qualifiers were unused substitutes.

Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has been a constant feature since Carl Ikeme’s unavailability in the team –  no other player from the league has been as fortunate.

In a chat with Emeka Ohagwu [Brila FM], Christopher argues that more opportunities must be created for players on the home scene to get call ups.
