Ex-Super Eagles player Ifeanyi Udeze has revealed that the disunity among former players was so deep that some teammates plotted to have Stephen Keshi removed as Coach of the Eagles out of spite.
Udeze said that the footballers union is a house divided and can hardly pursue a common course because of the vested interests of some of the ex national team players.
Keshi was Head Coach of the Super Eagles between 2011 and 2015 but also didn’t enjoy the backing of his employers at some stage during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The friction with the NFF led to his sack in 2015 on grounds of breach of his contract.
But, Udeze insists there was bad blood targeted at Keshi from other quarters and particularly from the players’ Union.
‘There is no unity among ex players of the Super Eagles and this has had adverse effects on the welfare of players in Nigeria.
‘I attend these meetings of ex players but realized there are as many as four different factions. How can a house divided against itself stand?
‘There had been occasions at such meetings where I heard former teammates of Keshi criticize him and even went as far as suggesting to get him sacked,’ Udeze stated.
