Pinnick Confirms Tammy Abraham ready to Dump England for Nigeria

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick has confirmed that young striker Tammy Abraham “has agreed” to play for Nigeria.

Pinnick said he had “a very honest and productive discussion” with the player and his father, per The Sun.

The Chelsea striker, on loan at Swansea City this season, is rated as one of England’s brightest young talents.

Tammy, 19, scored 26 goals in 48 appearances on loan at Bristol City last season and has played for England at various youth levels.

He played in the recent European Under-21 Championship and has netted three times in nine appearances for the Young Lions.

Pinnick – a friend of Abraham’s dad – told The Sun: “I had a very honest and productive discussion with Tammy and his father last week.

“It’s been a long process but I can tell you authoritatively that he has agreed to play for Nigeria and not England.

“He and his parents have started the necessary documents to effect the switch. Clearly, he understands he stands a better chance playing for the Super Eagles.

Abraham – currently on loan at Swansea City from Chelsea – has played for England at U18, U19, and U21 level, but he is eligible for Nigeria through his father.

And Pinnick – a friend of Abraham’s dad – says his nation are working on the forward, who netted his first Premier League goal at Crystal Palace before the international break and then scored again for the Young Lions against Latvia.

“We are working on getting Abraham,” said Pinnick. “Tammy is like my son. His father and I grew up in the same neighborhood.

“With his talent, he has the ability to fight for a place in the Nigeria squad, by God’s grace we make it to Russia, then he would contest for a chance to represent his fatherland.”
