Super Falcons’ in-form forward, Joy Omewa continued her blistering scoring run in Denmark, delivering the match-winning goal as Fortuna Hjørring battled from behind to defeat league leaders Køge 2–1 on Saturday.
The victory closes the gap at the top of the table and sets the tone ahead of the crucial Danish league playoffs.
Joy Omewa Turns the Game on Its Head
The match began cautiously and remained goalless at halftime, prompting Fortuna head coach to turn to his bench.
Omewa replaced Japanese defender Miyu Takahira at the break, immediately giving the champions more attacking presence.
But just 46 seconds into the second half, the visitors struck first through Angolan international Lacho Marta, who gave Køge a 1–0 lead.
Fortuna responded as American midfielder, Ashley Riefner equalised in the 59th minute, smashing home from close range to restore belief inside the stadium.
Six minutes later, Omewa, who has been a nightmare for defenders all season, delivered the final blow.
She calmly finished in the 65th minute, completing the comeback and sending the home fans into celebration.
