Former Nigeria international, Duke Udi has congratulated Rivers United and head coach Finidi George for qualifying for the CAF Champions League.
Speaking with Brila.net Udi noted that while qualifying is worth celebrating for Rivers United, it should also serve as a platform to achieve more.
“First and foremost, I say congratulations to Rivers United, the technical crew, and the management. It is not easy,” Udi said.
“Considering the level Nigeria is in football, we should not only talk about qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Champions League or the Confederation Cup.
“The aim should be to reach the semifinals, the final, or even win the trophy.”
“We are a big football nation in Africa, and our clubs have a long history. Enyimba won the competition twice in a row, and Shooting Stars reached the final in 1996.

“For us now to be happy with just qualifying for the group stage is limited, but we need to congratulate Rivers United because for the last eight years no Nigerian club has reached this stage.
“In this context, it is not a small achievement. From here, we have to build on it. We should aim not just to get to the group stage but to reach the semifinals or the final in the next outing. This is also a good development for Finidi George and for Nigerian coaches.” He concluded.
Udi, who earned four caps for the Super Eagles, also featured for top Nigerian clubs including Shooting Stars, Sunshine Stars, and Enyimba.
