Alongside the many changes that come with a new season, Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti will have to get used to one of his longstanding habits being denied on club premises.
The legendary Italian boss has been told he can no longer smoke inside Bayern’s training complex by new sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
The newcomer has only been in his new role for around three weeks but is already laying down the law when it comes to clubhouse etiquette.
The 40-year-old was brought in to help turn Bayern’s form around following an unprecedented run of five defeats in six preseason games, and has begun stamping his authority on proceedings in Bavaria.
‘I asked Carlo Ancelotti not smoke at the club. Of course he accepts that — he is a true professional,’ Salihamidzic told Sky Sports.
Things seemed to have picked up however, with Bayern putting their poor pre-season behind them to beat rivals Borussia Dortmund on penalties in the German Super Cup.
Ancelotti’s men then went on to humiliate Chemnitzer with an emphatic 5-0 scoreline in the first round of the DFB Cup.
When asked about his inability to smoke in the Bayern clubhouses any longer, Ancelotti was upbeat about the situation.
‘This is good for my health, my wife is delighted,’ the legendary boss said.
Bayern will return to action this evening (Friday, August 18) when they face Bayer Leverkusen in the opening game of the Bundesliga season
