Ruben Amorim has admitted he is “in a hurry” to bring trophies back to Manchester United but acknowledges that the club’s hierarchy understands he needs time at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, has endured a torrid start to life at United, with the club languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.
Their recent FA Cup elimination at the hands of Fulham has only intensified pressure on the 40-year-old.
With Champions League qualification all but out of reach through the league, the Europa League now stands as United’s only realistic shot at silverware and securing European football next season.
Amorim, however, remains confident in the long-term project at Old Trafford, revealing a strong understanding with United’s new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

“We Want to Win. We Are in a Hurry”
Despite his side’s struggles, Amorim insists that he and the club’s leadership are aligned in their vision for the future.
“They know how I am, and I’m so clear when we had the interviews and the conversation. I was so clear what kind of guy I am, that now is easy to have this kind of relationship,” he told Sky Sports.
He continued, “And then they know that we need time, but I’m always in a hurry. I don’t know if it’s something about my age or I don’t know, but I’m always in a hurry.”
“So I think they like that because I want to win. They want to win. And we are similar in that aspect. We are in a hurry. We want to win.”
Højlund’s Struggles – Amorim Defends His Striker

One of United’s biggest concerns this season has been their lack of goals, with Rasmus Højlund struggling to find the back of the net consistently.
The Danish striker has managed just seven goals in all competitions, with his last Premier League strike dating back to December 2024.
Despite the criticism, Amorim has backed the 21-year-old, highlighting his importance beyond just goals.
“People cannot see, but I see it and Rasmus is doing a lot of things well, but he’s in that moment that as a striker you need to score,” Amorim explained.
“And sometimes when he has the opportunity or the ball, he struggles because the confidence is not there. But the work that he does in the games is helping us to, for example, achieve this stage of this competition.”
A Season Hanging by a Thread
With just one win in their last five league matches, United’s season is at serious risk of total collapse.
Their fate in the Europa League could define the club’s immediate future, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, however, remains committed to Amorim for the long term, recently stating that he expects the Portuguese boss to be in charge “for a long time.”
Whether Amorim’s “hurry” to win will translate into success remains to be seen.
