Super Eagles forward Moses Simon added to his assist tally in Ligue 1 on Sunday, but his efforts couldn’t prevent Nantes from suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat away to Brest at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.
The Nigerian international, making his 14th appearance of the season, has now contributed four goals and five assists for Nantes.
After his heroics last weekend, where he scored the match-winner against Rennes, Simon turned provider this time, setting up a goal for his team.
Tough Start for Nantes
The match got off to a rocky start for Nantes as Brest seized control early.
Kamory Doumbia opened the scoring in the 24th minute, and just three minutes later, Brendan Chardonnet doubled the hosts’ lead, leaving the Canaries facing an uphill battle.
Nantes found a lifeline shortly after the break. In the 48th minute, Simon delivered a perfectly timed pass to Douglas Augusto, who finished clinically to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
The assist marked Simon’s fifth of the campaign and gave the visitors a brief moment of hope.
However, Brest quashed any comeback dreams with two late goals. Abdallah Sima restored the two-goal cushion in the 88th minute before scoring his second in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory for the home side.
Despite the team’s struggles, Simon remained a bright spot for Nantes. The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes, creating one assist and showcasing his attacking intent.
He registered one shot on target, had two others blocked, and completed one of his two dribble attempts, underlining his determination to break through Brest’s resolute defense.
What’s Next for Nantes?
The defeat leaves Nantes with plenty of work to do as they look to climb the Ligue 1 table. For Simon, his form remains crucial as the team relies on his creativity and experience to turn their season around.
