The former Player highlighted the Super Eagles’ success in the ongoing AFCON qualifiers.

With just one more point needed to secure their qualification, Amunike believes that the coaches have shown great capability in managing the Super Eagles so far.

“The coaches have done very well, what we need to do is keep encouraging our own,” he told Brila.net.

“The mentality we have in Nigeria is people will say, that person does not have experience but nobody was born with experience.”

“Do your thing, you will make mistakes and learn from it, you win too, learn it,” Amunike said.

The 1994 AFCON winner also discussed the recent squad list announced for the upcoming November qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

Given that the team is close to qualifying, some have suggested that this was an opportunity to include more home-based players.

However, he stressed the importance of retaining the best players to foster cohesion and team chemistry.

“In the national team; whether you play one game or against the weakest team, you need your best team to be around.

“It is not just about winning or losing, you are using this type of game to build cohesion in the team.”

Nigeria plays Benin on November 14, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, followed by a home game in Uyo against Rwanda on November 18.
