Super Falcons Door Open To NWFL Stars – Madugu

In a message to home-based players not called up for Nigeria’s recent matches against Algeria, interim coach Justin Madugu has assured that the selection process remains open.

Speaking on the criteria for his squad, Madugu noted that many players were chosen based on performances observed at a preseason tournament in Benin.

“It’s still a work in progress. These players that we saw, that we used in these matches, were players that we scouted in Benin.”

“We are quite aware that there are other players in some other teams that did not participate in that competition.”

For the Algeria friendlies, Madugu named 23 players; featuring 19 home based — a historic move for the Super Falcons, who typically rely on internationally-based players, including stars like Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Madugu hopes the inclusion of NWFL players will drive healthy competition, boost the domestic league, and motivate more players to earn a spot in the national team.
