Xabi Alonso Responds To Clash With Victor Boniface

Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso is not concerned about Victor Boniface’s frustrated reaction after being substituted during the 2-2 draw against Werder Bremen, on Saturday.

Boniface, who recently returned after recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident, opened the scoring in the match.

The Nigeria international was substituted for Patrick Schick with 20 minutes left on the clock.

As he approached the bench, the 23-year-old exchanged words with Alonso, showing his displeasure at being taken off.

Alonso, however, downplayed the incident, stating it was a common reaction among players.

“Yes, but that’s normal; all players want to keep going. He did well, scored a goal, but we needed a bit more energy,” Alonso told Kicker.

Alonso further commented on Boniface’s readiness following the accident, saying, “Boni trained well on Friday, so we decided he would start.”

“He scored a goal. Hopefully, the car accident is no longer an issue, and we can focus on football.”

Boniface is Leverkusen’s top scorer this season, with eight goals and one assist in 11 appearances across all competitions.
