Nigerian forward Akor Adams and his Ligue 1 club, Montpellier, suffered a 3-1 defeat in a pre-season friendly against Bundesliga side Mainz in Germany.

Mainz took control of the game early, scoring twice within three minutes in the 8th and 11th minutes as Montpellier’s defense crumbled under pressure.

Despite the early setback, Montpellier managed to pull one back in the 28th minute when Teji Savanier converted a penalty, giving the visitors hope for a comeback.

However, Mainz sealed the victory with a 90th-minute goal from Nelson Weiper, leaving Montpellier unable to recover.

Akor Adams had a few scoring opportunities but was unable to capitalize on them, missing those chances.

Montpellier will face Strasbourg in their opening league game of the 2024/25 season on Sunday, August 18, at the Stade de la Mosson.

The club finished 12th in the league last season and has been relatively quiet in the summer transfer window so far.
