Paul Onuachu was auspiciously missing in Southampton’s preseason friendly against SS Lazio on Wednesday night at the St. Mary’s Stadium.
Onuachu has been in the news for a possible exit from Southampton this season, but negotiations for the Premier League club’s asking price has fended off suitors.
Meanwhile, the Saints continue their preparation ahead of the new season, their return to the premier division after gaining promotion from the Championship last term.
Head coach, Russel Martin named his starting XI, without Joe Aribo in the line-up, the 28 year-old midfielder was however called into action from the bench.
Aribo made his entry to the game as a 72nd minute substitute with the scoreline tied at 1-1, and both teams reduced to 10 men.
England U20 youngster, Samuel Edozie also saw minutes for the Saints, coming off the bench earlier than the Nigerian international midfielder.
On the opposing end, SS Lazio boss Marco Baroni was without summer signing Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Dele-Bashiru has now missed three pre-season friendlies after making an instant impact in his first game, where he scored a brace against CS Auronzo.
He was not listed in the games against Trapani and Triestina, but returned against Hansa Rostock (24′) and Frosinone (46′).
Next up for the Biancocelesti is a trip to Spain, Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, where they’ll face Cadiz as preparations continues towards the new Serie A season.
