Head Coach Bankole Olowookere has assured fans that Nigeria’s U17 WNT, the Flamingos, will put forth their best effort to secure a spot in the FIFA World Cup.
The Flamingos are set to face Liberia in the first-leg final qualifying match for the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Monrovia this Sunday.
While Olowookere’s team is considered the favorite, Liberia’s impressive journey through the qualifiers poses a significant challenge.
“We will not be intimidated,” a confident Olowookere said. “The atmosphere is great, and the city of Monrovia is friendly. We feel at home, and we will approach the match as if we are playing at home.
“There is no way we will allow any form of crowd intimidation to distract us from our objective of picking a handsome win in this first leg.
“I have spoken to the players, and we have been working very hard, right from Abuja and since we got here.
“A good win in the first leg here in Monrovia is crucial for us to play the return leg in Abuja without any jitters.”
The match will hold at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville this Sunday. The match will kick off at 4 p.m. Liberia time (5 p.m. Nigeria time).
The second leg of the qualifier is scheduled to take place at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday, June 14.
