Enyimba Docked Points for Doma United Fracas
73
The NFF Disciplinary Committee has reversed the outcome of the Nigeria Premier Football League match between Enyimba and Doma United, altering the final score from 1-0 to a 0-0 draw.
The controversial moment occurred in the 88th minute when Enyimba appeared to clinch victory with a late goal, only for the Assistant Referee to swiftly raise the offside flag, a decision backed by the match referee.
However, chaos ensued as Enyimba supporters disrupted proceedings, halting the game and prompting the referee to seek refuge in the OB Van.
It was within this tense atmosphere that the referee purportedly reconsidered his initial ruling, citing external pressures.
“That the Referee testified before the Committee and admitted that the goal was scored from offside position, but had to change his decision after visiting the OB Van for fear of being lynched as he was at all times surrounded by the officials of Enyimba FC and hoodlums”. Says the Report from the league body.
Furthermore, reports emerged of the referee being coerced into drafting his match report within the confines of the dressing room, under the watchful gaze of Enyimba officials, a situation purported to have influenced the brevity of his account.
Enyimba has right to appeal the decision.
Despite the two points deduction, the defending champions maintain their second position with 53 points, now tied with Remo Stars in third place.
