In the wake of a poor start to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Kenneth Omeruo, a pivotal member of the triumphant 2013 team, remains steadfast in his conviction that the Super Eagles can overcome their initial setback.

The three-time African Champions stumbled in their tournament opener, settling for a 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea this past Sunday.

Drawing parallels to their journey in 2013, where an initial stumble did not deter them from ultimately clinching the title, Omeruo sees a potential repeat of history as the Super Eagles strive for success in the current AFCON campaign.

“Like 2013 we didn’t start well, but we went all the way to win the tournament. So we have to keep our head up.

Next for the Jose Peseiro’s side is Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on Thursday.

“Playing the Ivoriens won’t be a easy task, because they are at home and all the support but we trust ourselves. We’ll see how the game goes,” Omeruo said.
