Ashleigh Plumptre Eyes 2024 Olympic Appearance

CB Ashleigh Plumptre has expressed her desire to represent Nigeria at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games.

Plumptre was part of Nigeria’s squad that reached knock-out phase of the Women’s World Cup in July.

 

However, the 25-year-old has taking a leave of absence from the National team since to focus on club football; after her recent move to the Saudi league.

The decision raised concerns over her commitment, but the versatile defender has revealed that she hopes to return for the Olympic Games.

“Yes, it would be the pinnacle of my career. It makes me smile just thinking about the Olympics,” Plumptre told Arab News.

“My dream when I was younger was to be a doctor on an Olympic team because I love the Olympics.”

The former Leicester City defender added that the experience of the last World Cup will stay with her forever.

“It was a crazy, crazy experience, but one that I will always cherish. I want to remember this for the rest of my life,” she added.

Nigeria will face Cameroon for place in Women’s Football Olympics Event which holds in Paris next year.​
