Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has capped the most successful season of his career by winning the 2023 African player of the year award.
Following a record number of votes, the Napoli star was awarded the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year accolade on Thursday at a ceremony in Morrocan city of Marrakech, ahead of PSG star Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Liverpool star Mo Salah of Egypt.
Osimhen was the favourite to win the award having made an incredible impact at Napoli, since joining the club from French side LOSC Lille.
Osimhen led the Naples based team to the scuddeto title in Italy while winning the top scorers award in the league.
Meanwhile, Super falcons forward Asisat Oshoala, was also named female player of the year.
It was Oshoala’s record sixth title after winning the award five times in the past.
