Kenneth Omeruo emphasized the critical importance of securing a spot at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria, a three-time African champion, faced a disappointment by failing to qualify for the 2022 edition hosted by Qatar.
With the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted by three nations—USA, Mexico, and Canada—Omeruo expressed the team’s determination to redeem themselves.
“We are looking forward to it, it’s an important one for us, we missed out at the last World Cup so this is a serious matter for us,” the former Chelsea player told the Super Eagles media.
“We are here to do what we have to do to get the ticket for the next World Cup.”
The Super Eagles are poised to kick off their journey towards the2026 mundial with a home game against Lesotho’s Likuena at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Thursday.
Omeruo, was part of Nigeria’s squads in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
