The coach of Super Eagles, José Peseiro has finally addressed questions raised by Nigerians regarding the selection of players for the match against Sao Tome and Principe.
There has been notable discontent among football stakeholders and fans throughout the country as they believe that the coach should have selected more home-based players for the game, considering that the team has already secured qualification.
Responding to these questions during a press conference held on Saturday, Peseiro explained that there was insufficient time to gather the players together before the competition in January.
“The national team is not like a club where you have ample time to build a team. You spend days, weeks, and months training together.
“In our case, we have to make the most of the international transfer windows to work together. After this, we will come together again in October, before the World Cup qualifiers begin in November.”
The match against Sao Tome and Principe will be held on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.
Peseiro’s side won the first meeting 10-0 in 2022 and will aiming for another big scoreline.
The three time African Champions need just a point to seal top spot in Group A.
