Zaidu Sanusi guides Porto to UEFA Champions League round of 16

It was a memorable night for Super Eagles defender, Zaidu Sanusi as he helped his club FC Porto to the knock out phase of the UEFA Champions League in style.

With round of 16 tickets already in the bag following a comprehensive win over Club Brugge last week, Sanusi and his mates needed to beat Spanish side Atletico Madrid to seal top spot in the Group and they did just that, beating the Diego Someone’s men 2-1.

The Portuguese Champions hosted Atletico Madrid at Estádio do Dragão on Tuesday evening and Zaidu Sanusi was handed a starting belt.

The Nigeria international however was unable to finish the game, as he was substituted in the 54th minute, due to injury.

Before leaving the pitch Sanusi made two clearances, won two duels and three recoveries.

Porto took the lead through Mehdi Taremi in the fifth minute and the Dragons then extended their lead moments later through Stephen Eustaquiao.

Atletico Madrid were handed a life line when Ivan Marcano scored an own goal, but Porto held on for a win.

The victory means Porto finished top of their group ahead of Club Brugge, who played out a goalless draw against Bayer Leverkusen.
