Nigerian winger, Yira Sor has revealed that he turned down a potential transfer to a Bundesliga club in order to remain with KRC Genk for the current season.
Despite speculation surrounding his departure during the summer transfer window, especially after the club sold key players Bilal El Khannouss, McKenzie, and Fadera, Sor opted to stay.
The 23 year-old player cited his desire to continue developing with the Limburg-based side as the main reason for his decision.
“It wasn’t the right time for me to make a transfer,” he explained to Het Belang van Limburg. The attacker could count on concrete interest from the Bundesliga.
Sor has been recovering from a persistent groin injury that sidelined him for a significant period.
He stated that he did not want to commit to a new team until he is fully fit, preferring to regain form with Genk before considering future moves.
“I was still recovering after my groin operation, I would have to start a new adventure with a disadvantage. That was not opportune.”
“I also feel that I still have a beautiful story to write here in Genk. Now that I am physically at my best again, that moment has arrived. Rest assured, the best is yet to come,” he concludes.
Sor provided an assist as Gent defeated Cercle Brugge on Saturday.
