Chisom Chikatara added the CAF Super Cup to his trophy cabinet thanks to Wydad Casablanca’s 1-0 win against TP Mazembe on Saturday and he’s earned the praise of the Coach.
Chikatara joined the Moroccan club in 2016 from Abia Warriors, but has endured a difficult period with injuries.
On Saturday though, the 23-year-old started for the CAF Champions League winners and saw over an hour of game time, but could not score.
Twenty minutes after he was replaced, Wydad struck the winning goalon the 83rd minute at the Complexe Mohammed V, Casablanca.
Speaking after the game, Wydad Coach Faouzi Benzarti defended his decision to pick the Nigerian for a big occasion like the Super Cup.
“I have been in charge for a month, but I have received positive feedback from the players. Some key players have left and I will have to make do with the existing ones.
“Chikatara (Chisom) is a good player and during training in the week he showed so much quality and progress. It is my choice to field a particular player or the other,” the Coach said at the post match presser.
