World Athletics Relays: Tobi Amusan, Favor Ofili Headline Nigeria’s Contingent

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria have unveiled its top athletes for the World Athletics Relays in the Bahamas.

Reigning 100m Women’s Hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan, and rising star Favour Ofili headline the AFN’s selection.

Also on the list are Omolara Ogunmakinju, who turned silver to gold at the just concluded 2023 African Games, adding depth and experience to the women’s team.

Godson Oghenebrume and Udodi Onwuzurike will spearhead the men’s 4x100m relay, supported by a lineup of talented sprinters including Alaba Akintola, Karlingthon Anunagba, Consider Ekanem, Seye Ogunlewe, and Israel Okon Sunday.

Despite his impressive performances this outdoor season, Favour Ashe, Nigeria’s fastest man of the year with two sub-10-second sprints, did not make the cut.

The team’s primary goal is to secure qualification for the 4x100m and 4x400m relay events, as well as the mixed relay, for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

World Athletics has designated the World Relays as the primary Olympic qualifying competition for relay events, with the top 14 countries securing automatic qualification for the Olympic Games.

With the spotlight on these athletes, Nigeria is poised to make a strong statement on the global stage and secure its place among the world’s elite in track and field.
