Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have learned their fate for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after being drawn in Group D.
D’Tigress will battle Mozambique and Rwanda for a place in the knockout stage of the prestigious continental championship.
The draw, which took place ahead of the tournament scheduled for later this year in Côte d’Ivoire, has sparked anticipation as D’Tigress seek to defend their title and secure a record-extending fifth consecutive AfroBasket crown.
The full groupings for the tournament are:
Group A:
Côte d’Ivoire (CIV)
Egypt (EGY)
Angola (ANG)
Group B:
Mali (MLI)
Cameroon (CMR)
South Sudan (SSD)
Group C:
Senegal (SEN)
Uganda (UGA)
Guinea (GUI)
Group D:
Nigeria (NGR)
Mozambique (MOZ)
Rwanda (RWA)
D’Tigress enter the competition not only as defending champions but also as four-time consecutive winners (2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023) and six-time overall champions—solidifying their status as the undisputed queens of African women’s basketball.
However, Group D is far from a walk in the park. Both Mozambique and Rwanda have made significant strides in recent years, heating up the group as the reigning champs face challengers hungry for a shot at glory.
