Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has sustained an injury just weeks before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ndidi was absent from Leicester’s Championship match, a 4-1 home win against Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca, confirmed after the game that the Nigerian midfielder had picked up an injury.
This development comes as a setback for Ndidi, who is a key player for both Leicester City and Nigeria.
“Enzo Maresca tells me that Wilfred Ndidi has picked up an injury, that’s why he was absent today,” according to Leicester City’s BBC correspondent, Owynn Palmer-Atkin on his X account.
“Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are set to join up with Nigeria tomorrow, Enzo stressed that neither are currently fit enough to play.”
Kelechi Iheanacho, another Nigerian player at Leicester City, has also been sidelined for the team’s last two Championship games due to a muscular problem.
The duo’s absence raises concerns for the Nigerian national team as they begin preparations for AFCON 2023 in Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday.
