Oud-Heverlee Leuven (OH Leuven) have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi from Italian club US Salernitana.
The 22-year-old forward joins the Belgian Pro League side on a three-year deal, with the transfer fee reported to be €1.8 million.
In a statement on the club’s official website, OH Leuven CEO Frederic Van der Steen explained the reasons behind the acquisition of the former Nigeria’s Flying Eagles star.
“Ikwuemesi is a young player with enormous potential and room for growth. His profile gives us a lot of options in the offensive line,” said Van der Steen.
“We are very happy with his arrival, but the most important thing is that the player was very eager to come to OH Leuven. Enthusiastic players usually perform better. We are confident that, with the support of our fantastic audience, he will soon shakw the net.”
Ikwuemesi also expressed his excitement about the move and his commitment to the new club.
“OH Leuven is the right club for me. I will give everything for this shirt because I felt welcome here right away. The people within the club give me a lot of confidence, so I want to repay them with victories and goals,” he said.
The 22 year-old will wear the number 19 jersey at OH Leuven, having previously worn the number 22 kit at Salernitana.
