Why Taiwo Awoniyi Was Dropped in Forest’s Pre-Season Match
94
Nottingham Forest coach Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed why Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi missed their first pre-season game against Chesterfield. The coach explained the Player’s absence was due to discomfort.
The former Union Berlin player underwent surgery last season and appeared to have returned to full fitness.
However, many were surprised when he was not part of Nottingham Forest’s squad for their pre-season game against Chesterfield on Saturday.
In his first season at the City Ground, Awoniyi missed 17 games due to a groin injury.
Last season, he was sidelined for 18 games with the same issue.
“He had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let’s see how long it takes,” Nuno said via Nottingham Post
“It was something in his calf. Unfortunately, he couldn’t play today. Hopefully, he doesn’t miss too much of pre-season. For all of them, pre-season is important, and more so for Taiwo.”
Despite this setback, Awoniyi will be part of Nottingham Forest’s trip to Spain next week, and will be looking to play a significant role in their pre-season preparations.
